Of the 10, 226 members of the security forces registered, a total of 8,369 voted on Friday in the general and regional elections.

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) announced Saturday that 5,400 (80.6%) members of the Guyana Police Force voted, 2,539 (83.6%) members of the Defence Force and 430 (88.1%) of Prison Service members cast their vote.

Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels (ag) on Friday told the media that 488 officers were expected to cast their votes from the GPS while 52 new recruits will vote on March 2.

Eight-two polling stations were established across the country as the Joint Services voted ahead of the March 2 general and regional elections.

Some of the officers who were unavailable to vote on February 21, can cast their votes on March 2 with the rest of the voting population.

Public Relations Officer of GECOM, Yolanda Ward told the News Room that members of the Fire Service did not vote along with the joint services but they will do so on March 2.

The process was observed by the various electoral observer missions, political party agents and GECOM officials.
