479 ballot boxes counted so far

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Friday counted 58 boxes bringing the total to 479 for Regions 1-5.

According to GECOM’s Public Relations Officer Yolanda Ward, the remaining box for Region One was counted, 13 for Region Two, 17 for Region Three, 15 for Region Four and 12 for Region Five.

Of the total number of boxes counted, 462 Statements of Recount were tabulated for the General Election and 464 for the Regional Election.

Friday marks 74 days since Guyanese visited the 2,339 polling stations to cast their vote for a party of their choice.

The Commission is looking to increase the number of recount stations at the Arthur Chung Conference Center from 10 to approximately 16 in order to speed up the process and declare a winner of the March 2 election.

They are awaiting approval from the national COVID-19 Task Force which is made up of high-ranking members from the incumbent APNU+AFC.
