18-Y-0 motorcyclist killed in Delph Ave. accident

An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a taxi driver crashed into him on Delph Avenue, Campbellville on Tuesday.

Dead is Elijah Ballard of Meadow Brook Gardens, Georgetown.

Regional Commander Senior Superintendent, Phillip Azore told the News Room that the accident occurred at about 14:10h.

The News Room understands that the driver of the motorcar HC 1527 was proceeding West on John Street – a one-way street -while the motorcyclist was proceeding north on Delph Avenue when the driver failed to stop at the stop sign.

As a result, he crashed into Ballard, who fell off his motorcycle and landed several feet away from the point of impact.

The young man was picked up in an unconscious state by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died while undergoing surgery.

The driver of the motorcar tested negative for alcohol and is in Police custody assisting with the investigation.
