Lusignan prison escapees charged months after re-arrest

Three men who escaped from the Lusignan Holding Bay on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) were on Thursday charged for escaping from police custody.

The men are 26-year-old Anthony Padmore of Ogle Street, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara (ECD) – arrested on May 1-, 24-year-old Sasenarine Bisnauth of Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) – arrested on May 6 – and 32-year-old Ghanesh Dhanraj of Facade Parika, EBE arrested on May 31.

They appeared before Magistrate M. Mittelholzer via Skype and pleaded guilty.

Padmore was then sentenced to two years imprisonment, while Dhanraj and Bisnauth were each sentenced to 21 months imprisonment.

The men escaped from the Lusignan Holding Bay on April 20 by jumping the eastern fence at the facility.

Padmore was serving three years imprisonment for trafficking cannabis, Dhanraj was on remand for murder and Bisnauth was on remand for armed robberies.
