A 44-year-old contractor attached to the Guyana Defence Force was on Monday released on $200,000 bail for causing the fatal accident at Zeeburg Public Road, West Coast Demerara which claimed the life of a female pedal cyclist.
Feroz Mohamed of Zeelugt New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul and was not required to plead to the charge.
Particulars of the charge alleged that on Saturday, September 19,2020, Mohamed drove his vehicle in a dangerous manner along the Zeeburg Public Road and caused the death of Somattie Persaud,39.
Mohamed was represented by attorney-at-law Bernard DaSliva, who made an application for bail.
The Magistrate released Mohamed on $200,000 bail and adjourned the case until November 5.
According to a police report, Mohamed was driving along the Zeeburg Public Road when he allegedly fell asleep and crashed into Persaud from behind; the woman was riding a bicycle at the time.
Mohamed then crashed into a concrete fence.
Persaud was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where she died while receiving treatment.
