A sergeant of the Guyana Police Force was charged with attempted murder on Monday when he appeared at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court for shooting his wife and the mother of his children to the neck on February 12.
Colin Whyte, who was in charge of the Blairmont Police Station, was not required to plea to the charge and was remanded to prison until March 02, 2021.
Police had reported that on the day in question, Whyte visited his wife, Shonetta James at her Onderneeming, West Coast Berbice house when an argument ensued and he subsequently shot her.
James, who is also a special constable, was then dropped off at the Fort Wellington Hospital by Whyte.
According to the police report, the woman was subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she underwent surgery.
Whyte was later was arrested and police said he has since denied the allegation.
The News Room understands that couple shared a 4-year relationship and has two children together.
