Police have arrested a 21-year-old West Canje, Berbice man for allegedly kidnapping his girlfriend after they got into a fight over her refusal to delete her Facebook account.

Police headquarters reported that the man was in a relationship with the 17-year-old victim for about a year; they would usually visit each other’s home.

Last Thursday, when the man visited his girlfriend’s home, a quarrel developed over her use of social media; he demanded that she delete her Facebook account but she refused.

The man reportedly grabbed the phone she was using, broke it and threw it over a nearby fence.

Police said he then started to physically abuse the young woman and took a knife from his bag and placed it to her neck while ordering her to exit her yard.

The victim said she feared for her life and so complied when he got her to join a hire car. The young lady said she tried to signal to the driver that she was being forcefully taken but to no avail.

The man then took her to his home and left her naked in a room in the lower flat of the building.

“All her pleas and attempts to leave were met with threats of force,” the Police reported.

Then, at about 07:10hrs on Saturday, after hearing voices in the yard, the young lady said she managed to get the door open and ran into the yard screaming for help.

At this point, the suspect ran away from the scene.

The matter was reported to the Police and the man was arrested and is in custody pending investigations.
