Cop shoots at suspected bandits in front Burger King; one arrested, gun found in bin

A policeman four days ago opened fire at two men who were standing in front the Burger King, Camp and Regent Street, location after it is alleged that they pulled firearms and pointed it at the corporal.

A police report on Thursday noted that the incident occurred on June 20 at around 12:30hrs and one of the suspects is in custody while the other escaped.

According to the police report, ranks acted on information received and went to the location where they saw the two suspects standing in front of the location.

As the Police Corporal approached them, it is alleged that both suspects drew firearms from the crotch of their pants and pointed same towards the police.

The policeman took evasive action and discharged three rounds in the suspects’ general direction, causing them to run. The police report noted that one suspect ran into Burger King and the other went west on Regent Street and the policeman gave chase behind him.

He jumped a fence at Guyoil Gas Station and into a canal but was later arrested on Charlotte Street.

The policeman returned to Burger King and it was discovered that the other suspect had already made good his escape. Acting on information received, a search was conducted in Burger King’s kitchen area, and in a garbage bin, a Taurus firearm and five 410 ammunition were found.

It was shown to the arrested suspect, marked, sealed and lodged in his presence. The suspect was placed into custody while the other suspect is yet to be arrested. Investigations are ongoing.
