An accident involving three motorcycles on the No. 51 Public Road Corentyne, Berbice on Sunday afternoon resulted in the death of 21-year-old Devindra Kumar of Kilcoy Squatting Area.
Police said that Kumar was riding CG 7601 at a fast rate, when he allegedly let go of one of his hands from the handle and turned his head, looking backwards; he then lost control and fell onto the road and skid about 100 ft further north.
According to the police, an unknown motorcyclist who was behind Kumar, ran him over, lost control and fell onto the road, while another motorcyclist – Sudesh Tontoon, 24, – collided with Kumar’s motorcycle and ended up in a nearby trench.
Police said the driver of the unknown motorcycle picked up his motorcycle and drove away from the scene while public-spirited citizens picked up Kumar in an unconscious condition and rushed him to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigations are ongoing.
