The car and mangled bicycle involved in the accident

Police in Region Three have arrested a 23-year-old unlicensed driver, who struck down and killed a pedal cyclist on the Tushen Public Road on Monday.

Dead is 38-year-old Alfred Premnarine of ‘C’ Field Leonora, West Coast Demerara.

Police reported that the accident occurred at about 14:30hrs on Monday. The driver, Ulric Thorne was reportedly speeding in motorcar PNN 5543 when he lost control and crashed into Premnarine.

After hitting the pedal cyclist, the car then collided with a motor lorry, which was parked on the road side. As a result of the accident, Premnarine received injuries to the head and body.

He was picked up in an unconscious state by police and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The body was then escorted to the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour awaiting an autopsy. The driver remains in custody at the Leonora Police Station, as investigations continue.
