Opposition Member of Parliament Sherod Duncan was on Thursday released on $100,000 bail and is slated to appear at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, according to the Guyana Police Force.

Duncan was arrested for allegedly describing an IT Manager at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) as ‘jagabat’, ‘trench crappo’. He was kept in custody from 11:00hrs until his release late Thursday afternoon as detectives probe the Cybercrime offence.

According to the police report, the IT Manager Aneal Giddings filed a report that the APNU+AFC MP who is also a host of a programme under the name ‘In the Ring’ on Facebook, used derogatory terms to describe him while on the show.

Although the adjectives are informal words/slangs, a web search gave the meaning of ‘trench crappo’ as someone or something of low quality while ‘jagabat’ as a Trinidadian slang means a sexually promiscuous woman. Guyanese understand ‘jagabat’ to mean “a wretched good for nothing.”

Giddings told police that this has caused him significant emotional stress and humiliation.

As such, the mentioned video was identified and downloaded from the Facebook page under the name ‘Sherod Avery Duncan’ by Inspector Blair. A statement was taken from Giddings and an investigation has commenced.
