Police are investigating the armed robbery of a New Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice family which occurred on Tuesday night.
Two armed bandits stormed the house and business place of 54-year-old Edward Ramroop, a boat captain and his wife during which the man was shot in his right arm.
The News Room understands that Ramroop is in a stable condition at the New Amsterdam Hospital following surgery.
His wife, Bibi Zulika Ramroop, 57, told the News Room that she was in the bottom flat of the two-storey house and grocery shop with her six-year-old granddaughter while her husband was also downstairs when the men barged in.
“All wa me hear, a gunfire and me see he drop, it happen so quick,” the traumatised woman told the News Room.
According to her, once her husband collapsed, one of the bandits held her at knifepoint and demanded cash and other valuables.
The other suspect remained outside with the gun, she said. She handed over $14,000 in cash and the bandits escaped.
