$30M worth in ganja destroyed in Berbice

Police in Regional Division Six (East Berbice/Corentyne) have destroyed $30 million worth of ganja found on two farms on Wednesday.

The eradication exercise was led by an Assistant Police Superintendent.

The farms were discovered at Fort Nassau Savannah in the Upper Berbice River.

Police found about 10,000 cannabis plants on one of the farms; the plants ranged from three to five feet in height with a street value of $4M. According to a police report, three men managed to escape from the farm into nearby bushes.

The other farm, which was found in the same area, had 900 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $27 million. Police said 450 beds that were already reaped and a camp were also discovered on the farm.

Additionally, a nursery consisting of five thousand plants, along with a .38 revolver and a single barrel shotgun were also found.

The camps, plants and compressed cannabis were all destroyed by fire and the firearms were taken to Central Police Station and lodged.
