A 29-year-old mechanic was on Friday charged with the murder of Noel Anthony Fredericks, 29, a miner of Mainstay Village, Essequibo Coast.
Quacy Shepherd of Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Crystal Robinson at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
Police Headquarters in a statement noted that Shepherd was not required to plea to the charge and was remanded to prison until May 20, 2022.
Fredericks’ body was discovered two weeks after he went missing sometime between April 14 and 20.
Police had reported that Shepherd allegedly confessed to the gruesome crime. He told police that he had engaged in anal sex with Fredericks moments before he was killed.
During questioning by police, Shepherd reportedly told police that he and Fredericks were drinking at a shop in Toroparu Backdam, Lower Puruni River on April 15.
The men then left the shop and Shepherd claimed that Fredericks asked him (Shepherd) to have anal sex with him. Shepherd reported that he agreed, but when they were through, an argument ensued during which he choked Fredericks whilst simultaneously covering his mouth and nose, resulting in his death.
Shepherd detailed that he then tied the deceased hands behind his back and took his body to a hole that an excavator had dug, and buried it.
He then led detectives back to the hole where the naked body of Fredericks was found in a decomposing state with his hands bounded.
An autopsy conducted on Tuesday revealed that Fredericks died as a result of compression injuries to the neck compounded by blunt trauma to the head.
