A fire destroyed two houses at Agricola

Three men, who are neighbours at Brutus Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara, are now homeless after a fire destroyed their homes on Thursday.

According to the Guyana Fire Service, the fire started at around 15:12 hours at the house that Mr Brutus was the caretaker of.

The fire engulfed the two-storey wooden and concrete building and destroyed it, leaving the man homeless. His neighbour’s home, Lot 94 Brutus Street, was also damaged. The house, which was owned and occupied by Delvin Boyce and another occupant, Floyde Boyce, was severely damaged by the fire.

The top floor was damaged due to heat from the building next door. The two men are now homeless.

Heat from the house also affected two houses located at Lot 94 (B) and Lot 95 Brutus Street Agricola. Both houses were slightly damaged.

Three water tenders and a water carrier from the Central, West Ruimveldt and Eccles Fire Station responded to the fire. A total of four jets worked in a relay system between Water Tender #107 and #115 using tank supply and open water sources to extinguish the blaze.

Investigations are being carried out by the Fire Prevention Department to ascertain what caused the fire.
