A total of 7, 257 grams (15.9 lbs.) of marijuana was seized during an intelligence-led operation at Farm Village, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) on Friday.
Police Headquarters reported that the marijuana was discovered in a shop owned by a 35-year-old vendor and her husband, a 44-year-old taxi driver, both of Vergenoegen, EBE.
The vendor’s 23-year-old sister was at the shop when the ranks arrived and told her they received information that ammunition and narcotics were at the location.
The 23-year-old, who is a teacher, did not object to the search but told ranks that her sister runs the shop.
Police said ranks were getting “a strong scent/whiff of suspected cannabis that was coming from the said shop.”
As a result, one of the ranks broke the padlock on the western main door to gain entry and discovered two five-gallon plastic jars with the marijuana stuffed inside.
Meanwhile, at the home of the suspects in Vergenoegen, ranks were informed that they escaped in a car moments before the ranks arrived.
