Guyanese interested in contributing positively to the beautification of their environment, surroundings and neighbourhood will be given another opportunity this Saturday as a nationwide clean-up exercise has been planned.

Spearheaded by the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, the nationwide clean-up begins at 06:00hrs on November 12 and will be carried out simultaneously in all 10 administrative regions.

Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall will be leading the regional bodies in this exercise which is being organised by the National Enhancement Committee of which he is a member.

The Ministry of Local Government, which holds responsibility for the 10 regions, will coordinate the cleanup activity through the Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs), the Municipalities, the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) and the Community Development Councils (CDCs) with assistance from the private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the joint services along with national and non-national volunteers.

The Ministry has under its purview, 10 regions, 70 NDCs, 10 Municipalities and over 100 CDCs. The Community Enhancement Workers (CEWs) will also be integrally involved in this initiative.

A reconnaissance activity will be conducted on Thursday November 3 by all Regional Executive Officers, Chairpersons, Town Clerks and Overseers in an effort to identify priority areas ahead of time and allocate resources for the execution of these tasks in the particular area.

All individuals, resident in Guyana, are encouraged to participate in this nationwide activity to ensure the environment remains clean and healthy.
