The Abu National Oil Company (ADNOC) has promised to train the Guyanese staff who will make up the marketing Unit of Guyana’s Ministry of Natural Resources.

This is according to Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo who recently met with officials of ADNOC.
“They do a lot of marketing and they have a complex system of marketing their oil… very, very sophisticated,” Jagdeo stated. But Jagdeo said what Guyana requires is a more modest operation.

Since the production of oil began, Guyana has mostly hired international firms to market the country’s share of oil. Most recently, it was announced that British Petroleum will market Guyana’s share of oil from two oil platforms – the Liza Destiny and Liza Unity.

But Jagdeo said the government was moving to set up a marketing unit that can handle the business.

“They (ADNOC) promised they can train all of our people and we can send them on attachment,” Jagdeo stated.

As a result, he said so over the next year or so, the government may have to recruit about 15 persons.

“…and they (ADNOC) agreed I can assign them in ADNOC facilities in Dubai,” Jagdeo stated.
