Ricky Ambrose, a land surveyor for about 20 years, was reportedly chopped to death in the Arumu Backdam, Cuyuni on Sunday.
According to a release from the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA), the incident occurred at about 10:00hrs.
The release said Ambrose was found with lacerations about his body some distance away from his all-terrain vehicle (ATV). His licensed firearm and a quantity of raw gold and cash are also missing.
“The late Ambrose is well known to all in that populated area and other mining districts in the country,” GGDMA stated.
The Association reported that the Police “only visited the area sometime on the morning of Monday, December 19, 2022 to assess the scene and remove the body.”
The GGDMA noted in its release that Arumu is not a far distance away from Bartica.
“The GGDMA would like to express its condolences to the family and friends of the late Ricky Ambrose and calls on the Authorities to have a proper investigation into this incident. The Association also calls on the Authorities put proper systems in place at our borders to negate all criminal activities,” GGDMA stated.
