Days after Bethel Ikena Chenezie was shot after he attempted to infiltrate State House, he has not regained consciousness and is still receiving critical care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Chenezie, who possesses a Nigerian passport, on Thursday morning showed up at State House – the official residence of President Dr. Irfaan Ali and his family – and confronted the Presidential guard in a hut stating: “I want the President.”

He stabbed Presidential Guard Telon Perreira five times about his neck and body before disarming a female Presidential Guard and firing several shots at the building.

Chenezie was later shot by other members of the President’s security detail.

Meanwhile, the News Room also understands that as of Monday morning, Perreira was still receiving medical care in the hospital’s ICU. The Presidential Guard is, however, conscious and alert.

On Thursday night, when he regained consciousness, Perreira told President Ali that he was ready to return to work.

A statement from Police Headquarters on Saturday noted that the probe into the early morning attack on Thursday last continues. Because Chenezie has not regained consciousness, police have been unable to question him.
