A post mortem examination conducted on Thursday on the body of 11-year-old Tinesha Johnson of No.50 Village, Corentyne, Berbice revealed that she died as a result of asphyxia or suffocation.
Johnson was found dead on Monday last in a torn-up hammock in her backyard that was under a tree. The discovery was made by her 13-year-old sister.
Her mother, 35-year-old Latoya Laveric had told Police that she ventured out to the public road to purchase fish on Monday when one of her children ran out to her and informed her that something was wrong with Tinesha.
The mother said she then found Tinesha on the ground near the hammock with blood oozing from her nose. She was picked up and taken to the Skeldon Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
