Regions Three and Five played to a two-all draw and Region Six prevailed over Region Eight as action continued in the inaugural One Guyana President’s Cup Football tournament on Thursday night at the Albion Community Centre Ground, Berbice.
In the opening game, a Group B exchange, group leaders Region Three were held to a 2-2 draw against Region Five.
Region Three, one of the powerhouses of the competition, had two wins from two games heading into this contest, and the drawn result has left the group interestingly poised.
National player Trayon Bobb was on target for Region Three, with goals in the 25th and 53rd minutes, while Abumchi Benjamin (23rd and 59th) scored both goals for Region Five.
The top three teams in Group B are Region Three (seven points), Region 10 (five points) and Region Five (five points). All three teams have one game each remaining, with the top two advancing to the semi-finals.
In game two of the night, a bottom-of-the-table Group A clash, Region Six edged Region Eight 3-2 to earn their first points of the competition.
Lenardo Adams’ late goal (90+4 minutes) sealed the deal for Region Six after the teams were locked 2-2.
Dane Johnson (47th) and Devon James (80th) were the other scorers for Region Six, while Marciano Martin (45+4) and Kemo Domindo (63rd) netted for Region Eight.
The One Guyana President’s Cup Football continues on Friday evening at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora with Region Four against Region Nine from 18:00h and Region One versus Region Two from 20:30h.
