Heavy winds at Goed Intent, West Bank Demerara (WBD), damaged at least two houses, a shop and a vehicle on Monday. An elderly woman and a child were also injured by falling debris.
According to Samantha Prince, a resident of Lot 400 Goed Intent, the freak storm struck the area at around 12:00hrs on Boxing Day.
“Rain and big wind come and lash off all the roof on the house,” she told the News Room.
An elderly woman who was inside one of the houses was struck by a piece of wood; she has been taken for medical attention. A child was also struck on the chest by another falling piece of wood.
Heavy rains continued on Monday afternoon in the area and Prince said that she and other residents are hoping for any assistance.
