Fisherman, 30, found dead at Berbice house

Police in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 30-year-old Ryan Emanuel Mangal, a fisherman from Princetown Corriverton, Berbice.

The News Room understands that Mangal was imbibing with some friends on Tuesday, January 3, during which he began to cry, saying that no one likes him.

His friends, identified as Chandanie Sukram and her husband Vijay Hemchand, consoled him and subsequently left him in a chair in the lower flat of the house and they retired to bed at approximately 19:00rs on Tuesday.

On Wednesday morning, Hemchand claimed he woke up and found Mangal face down and motionless in a puddle of water.

The police were contacted and Mangal was escorted to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The body is currently at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. The body was examined for marks of violence but none was found, according to the police.

The investigation is ongoing.
