Two men from Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, were on Monday denied bail over the illegal firearm, ammunition and marijuana found during a house raid last Friday.
25-year-old Delvoy Williams and 22-year-old Joshua Archer, both of Robert Road Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, were brought before Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
The men pleaded not guilty to these charges: possession of firearm without license, possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and possession of ammunition without a license.
Magistrate George remanded them to prison and the matters were adjourned until February 1.
An illegal 12-gauge double-barrel shotgun, along with four live matching rounds and 580 grammes of marijuana were seized during the house raid.
Police Headquarters on Friday said ranks stationed at the Sparendaam Police Station visited the two-bedroom house around 5:15hrs. The firearm and ammunition were found in the first bedroom in the presence of the two occupants.
The suspects were asked if they were licensed firearm holders but they remained silent. They were then told of the offence committed, cautioned, and arrested.
A further search was conducted in the second bedroom and there the marijuana was found in a black plastic bag containing 286 transparent zip-lock bags.
