Two men, who were being transported to the Lusignan prison on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD), escaped from police custody on Friday afternoon when they kicked open the door of the prison van transporting them.

The escapees are: Ryan Wilson called ‘Pepsi’, a 28-year-old of Lot 69 Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo and Shamar Singh, a 22-year-old of Hague, West Coast Demerara.

Wilson was arrested for indecent assault while Singh was arrested for simple larceny and the possession of narcotics.

Police Headquarters, in a statement, reported that the prisoners kicked open the prison van door around 16:15hrs while the vehicle was on the eastern end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge, en route to Lusignan. They then made their escape.

The Guyana Police Force, the statement said, noted that committed efforts are being made to recapture the two men.
