Paul Daniels, a 54-year-old man of the St. Cuthbert’s Mission Scheme, is dead after 27-year-old Reaul Daniel drove over him with a car as he (Paul) was lying on the road on Friday night.

Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred at about 21:30hrs on Friday, at the St. Cuthbert’s Mission Scheme road.

Reaul, driving a hire car (HC 2281), was proceeding east along St. road at about 15 to 20 kilometers per hour (KMPH) when he drove over Paul.

Police said Reaul reportedly drove away but returned to the scene after the passengers travelling in his vehicle informed him that he drove over the pedestrian.

Paul was picked up by public-spirited citizens and transported taken to the St Cuthbert’s Mission Health Centre but later transferred to Mackenzie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The body is presently lying at MacKenzie Hospital Mortuary, awaiting an autopsy.

Meanwhile, Police officers subsequently visited the scene, where statements and measurements were taken and the vehicle examined.

The scene was photographed, and a breathalyser test was conducted on the driver, which returned readings of .020% and .021%, respectively. This is below the prescribed alcohol limit.

The driver is in custody as the investigations continue.
