Leg-spinner Steven Sankar picked up five wickets to bowl Demerara to a commanding 243-run victory over the Select XI in Round Two of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Senior Inter-County Four-Day Championship on Monday at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.
The match finished in three days, with Demerara recording their first win of the competition and the Select XI suffering a second straight defeat.
Set a massive target of 425 runs for an outright victory, the Select XI were skittled out for 181 in their second turn at the crease, with Sankar taking 5-62. Richie Looknauth took 3-43 and Ronaldo Alimohamed 2-28.
Jonathan Rampersaud (51), Carlos La Rose (36) and Rajendra Chandrika (30) were the leading scorers for the Select XI.
Alimohamed was named Man-of-the-Match; he made 94 in Demerara’s massive first innings score of 419.
The third and final round starts on March 19 with Berbice vs Select XI at Everest and Demerara up against Essequibo at the GCC ground, Bourda.
