Driver in Rupert Craig Highway fatal accident on bail as probe continues-Traffic Chief

The businessman who was driving the minibus that crashed into 69-year-old Kissoondai Sewratan last Tuesday has been released on bail as the investigation into the accident continues.

This was confirmed by Traffic Chief Dennis Stephen.

“We are still going some work in that matter,” he said.

Sewratan had just paid for a house lot she secured earlier in the day and was returning home to celebrate her son’s birthday when she was killed.

According to the Police, the driver who has been identified as Shivraj Persaud, 39 of Seaforth Street, Campbellville, Georgetown claimed that he was proceeding east along the northern lane of the northern carriageway of the road and while in the vicinity of Movie Towne, Sewratan ran across the road and into the path of his minibus, BAD 1832.

As a result, Sewratan sustained injuries about her body and fell onto the roadway. She was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
