See below the full statement issued by the Guyana Athletes Commission:

“The Guyana Athletes Commission views with grave worry and wishes to express its concern over the management of Guyana’s athletics team participating at the 50th CARIFTA Games being held in the Bahamas, citing negative reports from athletes, coaches, media, social media, and parents.

The GAC considers this problem to be significant since it directly affects not only the performance but also the development of athletes.  As the organization responsible for representing athletes’ interests in Olympic sports, we are actively engaging stakeholders at every level to voice our dissatisfaction with the existing dilemma.

The GAC commends all our CARIFTA athletes for their perseverance and sheer determination despite the prevailing grim circumstances. In light of this situation the GAC hopes to engage in meaningful conversation with the AAG executive to determine the root of this problem; to find a solution; and to ensure that athletes do not face similar embarrassing situations in the future.”
