A 25-year-old man lost his life Thursday night following a three-vehicle accident at the corners of Mandela Avenue and Norton Street, Georgetown.
Dead is Leon Sealy-Yaw of East La Penitence, Georgetown.
The accident occurred around 20:30hrs. At the time, Sealy-Yaw was the rider of the motorcycle CM 607.
According to a Police report, 27-year-old Samuel Andrews of Toucan Drive, North East La Penitence, Georgetown was heading south along Mandela Avenue, on motorcycle CJ 8133.
As he approached Norton Street, Andrews reportedly told the Police that he stopped to observe the traffic before heading west onto Norton Street.
Police said Andrews claimed that traffic on the western lanes of Nelson Mandela Avenue came to a halt to allow him to proceed further west onto Norton Street.
In doing so, Police said Sealy-Yaw, who was proceeding north along the western edge of the western carriageway of Nelson Mandela Avenue collided with the front left side of Andrews’ motorcycle.
As a result of the collision, Sealy-Yaw was flung into a concrete culvert
He sustained injuries about his body while his motorcycle hit the front number plate of the minibus, BAC 9070 which was driven by 49-year-old Ryan Dexter King of lot 44 Middle Street Pouderyen, West Bank Demerara.
The minibus was parked at the intersection of Mandela Avenue and Norton Street
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were summoned and Sealy-Yaw was pronounced dead at the scene.
Andrews was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit where he is presently receiving treatment.
Investigations are ongoing.
