Dr. Roger Luncheon, a long-standing government advisor and former Head of the Presidential Secretariat, passed away early Tuesday and Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo said he was gainfully employed by the government until the moment of his passing.

Dr. Jagdeo is the General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), the party that Dr. Luncheon belonged to.

And at a press conference held at Freedom House, the party’s Georgetown headquarters, on Thursday, the Vice President said Dr. Luncheon was an advisor in the Office of the President with staff assigned to him and was a member of Cabinet up until Tuesday when he passed away.

“Roger has been ailing for quite a while but throughout the difficulties, he always showed up to work and gave his very best,” Jagdeo said.

Additionally, Jagdeo noted that Dr. Luncheon remained a member of the PPP’s Executive Committee.

Dr. Luncheon, a veteran member of the PPP/C, celebrated his 74th birth anniversary last month. He was a medical doctor by profession.

Dr. Jagdeo hailed him as an “embodiment of commitment and struggle” and said the party and Dr. Luncheon’s family will be organising several activities to honour Dr. Luncheon’s life and work over the next three weeks.
