Man stabbed to death following altercation at rum shop

A man, identified only as ‘Sunny,’ was brutally stabbed to death at Kumung Kumung backdam, Region Seven and the Police have since arrested three persons, including a Venezuelan woman with whom he had an altercation with hours before.

Police Headquarters confirmed that they are investigating the murder which occurred sometime between August 17 and 18.

The suspects in custody have been identified as 23-year-old Oriamna Naomi Silva Figuera of Puerto Ordas, Venezuela and two miners, Joel Moore called ‘Alligator’ and Elton Booker, called ‘Ratty’, both 23.

According to the Police, investigation revealed that around 23:00 hrs on Thursday, ‘Sunny’ and two Venezuelan women, including Figuera were at a shop consuming alcohol when he approached one of them and requested to dance with her.

But Figuera declined causing ‘Sunny’ to become annoyed.

As a result, Police said ‘Sunny’ held onto Figuera and she pushed him off when an argument ensued.

According to the Police, persons who were present at the shop attempted to calm the situation, but ‘Sunny’ began to behave disorderly and assaulted Moore and Booker who tried to subdue him.

“The two men (Moore and Booker), in turn, dealt the deceased several cuffs and lashes about his body,” Police said.

‘Sunny’ was subsequently taken to his camp in an intoxicated state after which he retired to bed.

At around 06:00 hrs the following morning, Police said Figuera was seen running away from Sunny’s camp.

‘Sunny’ was later discovered lying motionless in his hammock; his body was covered in blood.

The Police found four stab wounds on his body including to his chest, back and left arm.
