The top four teams in Season Five of the KFC Elite League on Friday received financial rewards for their stellar exploits in the tournament, which returned after three years.

Representatives of the top teams were presented with their cheques at KFC’s Vlissengen Road Head Office.

KFC’s Marketing Manager, Pamella Manasseh, and Guyana Football Federation’s Director of Competitions, Troy Peters, expressed happiness over the league’s success and looked forward to strengthening their fruitful partnership.

Guyana Defence Force FC played unbeaten in nine matches to win the League.

They edged Western Tigers by three points to win the overall prize of G$2M, while Tigers had to settle for G$1.2M.

Guyana Police Force FC, who finished one point behind Tigers’ 22 points, copped G$800,000 while fourth-place side Santos FC got G$500,000.

In Season Five, teams played nine matches, but it will return to 18 matches per team in Season Six.

The new season was slated to commence in September, however, before the league starts, there needs to be Association playoffs to determine who will replace the relegated teams.

Peters could not definitively say when the new season of the Elite League would commence since some Associations are behind in playing their league matches.

The winless Milerock FC have been automatically relegated, while Victoria Kings, the other team in the relegation zone, still have a chance to keep their spot in the playoffs.
