Man arrested for brutally stabbing wife to death in Reg. 8

Police have arrested a 41-year-old man who reportedly stabbed his wife to death on Monday morning at Princeville Backdam, Potaro, in Region 8 (Potaro-Siparuni).

Dead is 42-year-old Christina Holder, a cook who lived and worked in the community; the incident occurred at about 02:00 hrs at the couple’s camp at Princeville Backdam.

The woman was found naked with multiple stab wounds to her body, face and arms; her husband was drenched in her blood.

He later told the cops that she accused him of having an affair with a “Spanish woman” during which the two got into a fight.

Police Headquarters revealed that the couple has been in a common-law relationship for the past 12 years, and they lived and worked in the area.

It is further alleged that on Sunday night, they were at their camp imbibing ‘high wine’ with coke and water while playing cards.

According to a dredge worker at a nearby camp, at about 02:00 hrs, he was awoken by Christina and her husband arguing, and then there was a crashing sound, after which Christina was heard screaming for help.

The worker told the Police that he immediately ran to the couple’s camp and saw Christina naked with several stab wounds on her body. She collapsed to the ground, and the suspect was also there with blood on his body. The matter was reported to the Mahdia Police Station.

Detectives visited the scene at about 04:45 hrs on Monday. The body was then escorted to the Mahdia District Hospital’s Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Mahdia Police Station. The alleged murder weapon was recovered and lodged. Investigations are ongoing.
