West Indies Academy started their CG United Super50 campaign with a 29-run win over the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) on Thursday evening at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad.
Led by half-centuries from Teddy Bishop, Matthew Nandu and Leonardo Julien, West Indies Academy piled up 318-8 from the allotted 50 overs and then dismissed CCC for 289 with an over to spare.
Batting first, West Indies Academy were indebted to top-order with three of the top four batters scoring above 50.
Former West Indies Under-19 batter Teddy Bishop missed out on a hundred, falling for 95 off 75 (14x4s, 1×6), while Guyana’s First-Class opener Nandu stroked 84 off 92 (7x4s, 1×6) on his List A debut.
Julien made 51 off 67 (3x4s, 2x6s), while Nyeem Young struck 24 off 14 (3x4s, 1×6) at the death.
Bowling for CCC, Guyanese fast bowler Isai Thorne took 3-65 off 10 overs and Abhijai Mansingh 2-55 off 10.
CCC, in reply, could not pull of the target, despite half-centuries from top-order batters Johann Jeremiah (82 off 65; 12x4s, 2x6s) and Shaqkere Parris (52 off 74; 6x4s).
Guyanese Akshaya Persaud made 28 off 30 (2x4s), Shatrughan Rambaran 26 off 32 (3x4s) and Mansingh 24 off 21 (1×4, 1×6).
Bowling for West Indies Academy, Young took 3-80 off 10, Kelvin Pitman 2-37 off six and Joshua Bishop 2-58 off 10.
