An 18-year-old man was on Monday robbed of a cellphone valued at $60,000, in what is suspected to be a targeted attack at Market Street, Kitty, Georgetown.
Shahid Aze Mohamed from Farm, East Bank Demerara, told the News Room that at about 21:15 hrs on Monday, he was returning to his uncle’s Barr Street, Kitty home when he was attacked by two men on a motorcycle.
Mohamed was in the company of a relative (a male) but the bandits, who were each armed with a pair of scissors, did not rob the relative.
According to Mohamed, he and his relatives were watching fireworks on Monday night and he used the Samsung A03 cellphone to take photos.
“Out of nowhere these two guys cornered us and I didn’t think it was a robbery because of the way they approached.
“I didn’t think it was to rob and then [they attacked]. I try to hold onto my phone and tell them leave me alone,” Mohamed told the News Room.
He believes the men targeted and followed him.
“They pull out two scissors and tried to stab me with the scissors but I hold the scissors from him and break it, which fell on the ground and the other one tried to come and stab me.”
Although Mohamed also had about $5,000 in his possession, he was only relieved of the phone.
The robbery was captured on CCTV cameras and the matter was reported to the Kitty Police Station.
