$11 billion contract awarded for Diamond to Buzz Bee Dam highway extension
The contract for the continuation of the East Bank Demerara four-lane highway from Diamond to Buzz Bee Dam, Craig was recently awarded to the tune of $11 billion.
“Initially was Eccles to Great Diamond and then we extend it to Great Diamond to the traditional Diamond…The additional one, this will be Diamond to Buzz Bee Dam, Craig,” Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal revealed on Friday.
According to Croal, contractors are in the process of mobilising their resources before the work commences.
“We have just awarded that so now the contractors are collecting their mobilisation advance to commence in that regard,” he said.
The cost also include funds for revetment works that has to be done for drainage and irrigation in the area.
The extension forms part of the East Bank Demerara four-lane highway project. The first phase of the road project, which stretches from Eccles to Mandela, was commissioned in April 2022.
Subsequently, contracts amounting to another $13 billion were awarded to continue the road from Eccles to Diamond. This section of the highway is expected to be commissioned early December.
