The Police are investigating an alleged murder that unfolded at Middle Street, Paradise, West Coast Berbice (WCB) just after midnight Monday.
The victim has been identified as Dwayne Byass, also known as “Eddo”, a 27-year-old self-employed individual from Golden Fleece, WCB.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:50 hrs Tuesday when Byass and the 26-year-old suspect, Nascio Allen, known as “Buck Boy”, were engaged in a game of dominos at a local shop. The friendly atmosphere took a dark turn as a heated argument ensued between the two, escalating into a physical altercation.
During the altercation, Allen used a knife to stab Byass to the left side of his abdomen before fleeing the scene. Eyewitnesses reported seeing Allen making his escape, clutching the knife used in the attack.
Byass, who collapsed inside the shop, was quickly assisted by his cousin and rushed to Mahaicony Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A subsequent examination of the body revealed a single wound on the left side of the abdomen, with the intestine protruding. The deceased’s body currently rests at Bailey’s Funeral Parlour, pending a post-mortem examination.
Following the incident, Nascio Allen voluntarily presented himself at Weldaad Police Station. In his statement to the authorities, Allen claimed that Byass had attacked him with a piece of wood, resulting in the fatal encounter.
However, law enforcement promptly arrested Allen, placing him in custody as investigations into the alleged murder unfold.
