The sum of $10 billion is allocated in the 2024 National Budget to continue the government’s part time job programme.

But it comes with an encouragement from Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh for the beneficiaries of this programme to acquire further skills and qualifications,

This, Dr. Singh said, will help to satisfy the skills gap in the labour market and ultimately transition to full time employment.

The government launched the part time job programme in 2022, in which one person per household was able to earn $40,000 by working 10 days per month in public offices in close proximity to their homes.

    In 2023, over 15,000 persons were employed through the programme in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10.

It placed over $6 billion in disposable income into these households. In 2024, this programme will continue and be expanded.
