In an act of benevolence, senior national cricketer Christopher Barnwell has aligned his CB90 brand with the Guyana Harpy Eagles debutants Raymond Perez and Steven Sankar and national Under-15 all-rounder Emmanuel ‘Mano’ Lewis.
Barnwell, 37, who played six T20 Internationals for West Indies between 2011 and 2013, is now the Managing Director of Leading Edge, a sport store located in the Regent Multiplex Mall.
At the conclusion of the Demerara Cricket Board’s Inter-Association T20 final last weekend, in which he scored a rampaging 155* off 65 balls to power Georgetown Panthers to championship success against West Demerara Jaguars, Barnwell presented a pair of CB90 batting pads each to Perez and Sankar.
Perez and Sankar are Barnwell’s club-mates at the Demerara Cricket Club.
“This is all about recognising achievements from the youngsters,” Barnwell told News Room Sport.
“When I was a youngster coming up I would normally get stuff from the club, so this is just about giving back and also build my brand CB90 at the same time.”
He also committed one-year supply of gear to young Lewis, presenting the Demerara Under-15 captain with a CB90 bat to kickstart the alliance.
Following consistent performances in domestic cricket, Perez and Sankar were selected in the Guyana Harpy Eagles 13-man squad for the Cricket West Indies Regional Four-Day Championship, which started on February 7.
They both made their debut in the opening round match against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at the Conaree Sports Club in St. Kitts.
Lewis, an attacking right-handed batsman and seam bowler, recently made 160 for Demerara against the Select XI in the Guyana Cricket Board’s 50-over Inter-County Under-15 championship.
He also made 204 for Georgetown against Upper Demerara last year in the Inter-Association competition, which was used to select the Demerara team for the Inter-County tournament.
Lewis, who was part of the Georgetown Panthers squad for the Inter-Association T20 competition, is expected to be a key figure in Guyana’s team that will compete in the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-15 competition, slated to start on March 24 in Antigua.
Barnwell said of Lewis: “I’ve been watching him at the Under-15 level and I think it was a good initiative to have him join young Johnathan Van Lange as a brand ambassador for the CB90 gear, so he can go out there and showcase his talent.”
Barnwell wished the trio well in their cricketing pursuits, adding that Leading Edge and CB90 are committed to supporting the development of young talents.
