A fire of unknown origin on Sunday morning ravaged three wooden buildings at the Eteringbang Landing, in the Upper Cuyuni River area in Region Seven (Cuyuni- Mazaruni).
Raimundo Lucio Dos Anjos Oliveira, a 52-year-old Brazilian national, told firefighters that he noticed the fire erupting from the circuit board area of his two-storey building, which consists of 10 rooms.
A press release from the Guyana Fire Service noted that Oliveira attempted to extinguish the flames with water but was unsuccessful as the fire quickly spiralled out of control. The blaze engulfed his building and two other abandoned structures nearby.
Oliveira and other community members continued attempting to douse the blaze and managed to contain the fire from spreading to additional buildings. There were no reported casualties.
At this time, the estimated value of damages remains unknown and the GFS is actively investigating what caused the fire.
The Fire Service is urging persons to take all the necessary precautions to prevent such disasters from occuring.
