An accident on March 15 has left Juliann Jettoo, a 28-year-old mother of two, paralysed with multiple injuries that may be permanent. The accident occurred at Bushy Park, Parika, East Bank Essequibo, when a female driver of motorcar PAF 8633 collided with Juliann.

Fred Hope, Juliann’s husband, shared the horrifying experience with the News Room and described the difficulty he and his family are facing since the accident.

Juliann sustained severe injuries including broken hands, ribs, a damaged spleen, a collapsed lung and a fractured jaw that saw some of her teeth being knocked out. She is now facing a long road to recovery.

On the day of the accident, Juliann and her husband were shopping separately on their motorcycles. Hope revealed that Juliann left to go home before him but stopped to buy school supplies.

“I didn’t see when she stopped and I went home to Parika.

“When I reach home to Parika, I asked them children if mommy come in and they said no. Right away I pull out my phone and I call but when I called a man answered and said this girl in an accident,” Hope recalled.

After rushing to the scene, Fred found Juliann lying lifeless on the ground.

“I ran and I picked her up and I hold on to her head and I start calling on God and said somebody help me and I feel a pulse in her,” the man explained.

According to him, witnesses said the motorcar collided with his wife while she was overtaking; then reportedly reversed and pinned her into a culvert.

“We know that because we can see burn marks from the engine on her hand, they reverse and crushed her hand and damaged all the nerves in her hand,” Hope stated.

Hope claimed that he and his wife always prioritised safety on the roadways and always wore a helmet while riding.

“She don’t ride without helmet, we don’t ride without helmet because we believe in safety,” Hope said.

Hope, a welder is unable to work as he cares for his wife. There is great uncertainty that she will make a full recovery.

He remains determined to seek justice for Juliann, although police investigations are now waiting on her to recover enough to provide a statement.

“I checked with the police and they said they cannot forward any investigation as long as my wife ain’t recover and feeling well enough to talk,” Fred said.
