See the full statement issued below:

Our National Park and Botanical Gardens, managed by the Protected Areas Commission, provide an oasis in the middle of our capital city where all Guyanese, especially families living in Georgetown, come to exercise, promenade and to enjoy and celebrate national holidays such as Easter together, as one people. Over two decades, in an effort to ensure our shared spaces remain safe and maintained litter free for all patrons to enjoy at all times, especially after large gatherings, a small environmental fee is collected from visitors on Easter Monday. This is not a revenue generating activity.

As a policy decision, the environmental fees are as follows: at the Botanical Gardens an environmental fee ranging from GY$500 to GY$2000 for motor cycles, motor cars, BUS / SUV and trucks was applied, with no additional fees for adults or children. All walk-in patrons enter free of charge; at the National Park, similar environmental fees apply for motor vehicles and GY$1000 was applicable to adults. Children enter free of charge.

Kindly note that the environmental fee is a policy decision towards ensuring that our urban parks remain green and clean for use by all patrons.
