Five arrested after firearms, ammunition found at Yarrowkabra

Police Saturday arrested five people, including three security guards, following the discovery of two illegal shotguns and several rounds of ammunition at Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

Police headquarters said the items were discovered during raids conducted between 04:00 hrs and 07:00 hrs.

Police stationed at Timehri went to Didco Farm at Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway where they contacted the first two suspects, a 60-year-old resident of Kuru Kururu and a 48-year-old resident of Yarrowkabra Extension.

Both men are security guards.

A search was carried out at their living quarters on the farm during which one 12-guage shotgun, eight 12-guage cartridges and casings of two 12-gauge cartridges were found in the roof.

Both men were questioned whether they were licensed firearm holders and they responded in the negative. As such, they were cautioned and arrested.

Police said a further search was conducted on the said farm and two camouflage military shirts were found in the living quarters of another security guard.

He too was cautioned and taken into custody.

Further, Police headquarters noted that another search was carried out on a Yarrowkabra house where another shotgun was found.

A 78-year-old man and his 48-year-old son, who were present in the house at the time, were questioned. Neither of the men was possession of a licence to carry the firearm.

As such, they too were arrested.
