Chetram, Latchman, Johnson excel in GCA U-13 Pairs cricket

Aneesa Chetram, Nyia Latchman and Mickel Johnson turned in solid performances to highlight the latest round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Under-13 Pairs competition, sponsored by sponsored by I&S Trading, TECHLIFY Inc. and Unique Electrical and General Store.

The 30-over competition features rivalry among Under-13 male teams and Under-19 female cricketers from the city.

Playing for Badia Spices, Chetram and Latchman made an impact with bat and ball in their two games at the Transport and General Sports Club, Thomas Lands, Georgetown.

Demerara Under-19 player Chetram scored 22 and picked up 3-6 and 3-22, while senior national player Latchman had scores of 23 and 21 and figures of 2-9.

Young Johnson also produced an excellent all-round performance, taking 3-8 and topscoring with 19 for TECHLIFY Inc.

Based on the tournament rules, teams start with a total of 240 runs and for every wicket lost during the 30 overs, 10 runs are deducted to derive their final total, which the opposition has to chase.

Players bat in pairs, with six pairs batting a maximum of five overs. Eight bowlers are allowed to bowl a maximum of three overs each, while three will bowl two apiece.

Below are the summarised scores from the games played (matches were reduced to 24 overs-a-side)

Badia Spices defeated I&S Trading by 94 runs: Led by Latchman (23) and Chetram (22), Badia Spices ended their allotment of overs on 381, with Darren Mendonca taking 1-17 off two overs and Ajay Kissoon 1-22 off three.

I&S Trading responded with 287 when their overs ended, with Ethan Persaud scoring 10 and Raiden Enmore nine.

Chetram capped a fine game, claiming 3-6 off two overs, while Rachel Sukhai (2-19 off three) and Abigail Benjamin (1-13 off three) played their part in the success.

TECHLIFY Inc. defeated Badia Spices: Latchman continued to excel with the bat, scoring a match-high 21 runs as Badia Spices posted 273 from the stipulated 24 overs. Mickel Johnson was the standout with the ball, taking 3-8 off three overs, one of which was a maiden.

Aden Samaroo picked up 2-13 off three and Omari Johnson was economical in his two overs, taking 1-5.

TECHLIFY Inc. overhauled the target and upon completion of their 24 overs, the score was 334. Johnson topscored with 19, Nathan Puran made 14 and Jamaine Grovesnor continued his consistency with 13.

Chetram and Rachel Sukhai returned identical figures of 3-0-22-3, while Latchman had 2-9 off three.

The competition will take a break this weekend and resume shortly.
