‘Labba’ charged, remanded for attempted murder of GDF rank, burglary

Days after he was arrested, wanted man Dexter McDonald, called ‘Labba’, was on Tuesday remanded to prison after he was slapped with three charges, including the attempted murder committed on Guyana Defence Force (GDF) private, Azim Khan.

McDonald, a resident of Middle Walk Buxton, ECD, appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrates’ Court.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence of attempted murder committed on Khan, who was shot during a home invasion at Mon Repos, ECD, on May 6, 2024.

Bail was refused and the matter was adjourned to June 20, 2024.

Khan was shot in close proximity to the heart while putting up a fight with two masked bandits who invaded his Block 8, Mon Repos, ECD, house.

He remains hospitalised in a critical condition.

McDonald also faced two additional charges stemming from burglary committed on police officer Junior Blair, whose firearm and ammunition belonging to the Guyana Police Force, along with several of his personal valuables, were stolen.

He denied those allegations and was remanded to prison.

The matters were adjourned to June 18 and 20, respectively.

After managing to evade police for more than a year, McDonald was arrested on May 17 at Belfield, ECD.

At the time, he was seated in the front passenger seat of a motor vehicle.
