Day two of the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Junior Championships in Tortola is expected to be a thriller for Guyana’s squash team.
Ethan Bulkan, a U-13 title favorite, dominated Jonty Rodgers (12-10, 11-0, 11-3) to secure a semi-final spot. But his opponent won’t be a stranger – it’s his brother, Egan Bulkan.
Egan defeated Zivon Adams (11-3, 11-6, 11-4), setting the stage for a captivating sibling showdown today (July 1).
Tehani Munroe displayed nerves of steel in the U-11 Girls division, and the gutsy win propels Munroe into the semi-finals, where she will chase her Caribbean title dream.
Guyana boasts a strong presence in the U-15 Girls category, with a trio of players battling for semi-final glory. Reigning U-13 champion Avery Arjoon kicked off her U-15 campaign with a convincing win over Lily Smit (11-2, 11-5, 11-2).
She will face teammate Emily Fung-A-Fat in a battle for national pride while Kaylee Lowe squares off against the number-two seed, Trinidad and Tobago’s Josie Thong.
More so, Safirah Sumner emerged victorious in her U-17 Girls matches, dismantling Jamaica’s Pirya Stoddart (11-2, 11-4, 11-4) and Ciara George (11-3, 11-8, 11-0).
Sumner’s impressive display secures her a well-deserved semi-final berth.
All of Guyana’s Under-19 boys made a strong start in a bid to sweep the category.
Mohryan Baksh coasted to an opening victory, as he topped Andrew Cox (11-6, 11-3, 11-4) while defending champion Nicholas Verwey efficiently handled Trinidadian Anthony Allum 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 11-4).
Michael Alphonso Jr. and Louis DaSilva joined the winning party by winning their matches 3-0.
All four will be back in action on Monday, vying for a spot in the semi-finals.
