Driver among three nabbed with ganja

A 20-year-old hire car driver and two passengers were arrested on Monday following the discovery of 4.7 kilogrammes (or about 10.3 pounds) of marijuana during a stop and search exercise.

A woman is among the suspects in custody. She hails from Campbell Street, Albouystown. The third suspect is a 40-year-old resident of Amelia’s Ward, Linden.

Police Headquarters said the narcotics were in two boxes which were found in the trunk of a red Toyota Sienta vehicle, bearing registration number, HD 4281.

Police said ranks conducted an intelligence-led operation around 14:30hrs during which the car, which was travelling west on the Soesdyke Linden Highway, was stopped.

During a search, two boxes containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be narcotics were found in the trunk, Police said.

The suspects were questioned and the driver admitted that he was given the narcotics to transport to Georgetown.

Police said the suspects along with the narcotics were taken to the Diamond Police Station, pending further investigations.
