PPP pickets MOTP calling for appointment of the Local Government Commission

Members of the Peoples Progressive (PPP) on Tuesday picketed the Ministry of the Presidency as they renew calls for the appointment of the Local Government Commission.

Chanting “Who is a bully?” and answering with “Bulkan”, the Opposition members are appealing to President David Granger to instruct Minister of communities, Ronald Bulkan, to move ahead in appointing the members of the Local Government Commission.

This commission is bestowed with the power to deal with all matters relating to the regulation and staffing of local government organs including employment and dismissal of staff. It also deals with dispute resolution within and between local government organs.

The PPP is of the view that the appointment of the commissioners is long overdue.

This party had recently announced their nominees to the commission to be Former Acting Town Clerk of Georgetown, Carol Sooba and former PPP Local Government Ministers; Norman Whittaker and Clinton Collymore.

Local Government elections were held in March 18, 2016 after over two decades.
